Social Media Is Everywhere
Social Media has become a major part of our daily lives. It’s an integral part of the framework of society and how we now learn, communicate, purchase, play and teach.
Have you gone a day without going on to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, checked your email, used an online map, GPS or Googled something? We no longer even think about living without it.
How To Promote Your Business On Social Media.
Using social media to grow your business, generate leads and build your brand may seem like a huge task, and in many ways it is.
The biggest piece of advice we can give anyone is if you are going to start building your social media channels you have to be consistent, not just with how often you publish, post or tweet but with your brand message as well.
Ensure that you are doing it properly, especially when it comes to the reputation of your business. A mistake on a social channel could end up going ‘Viral’ and destroying your business in the public eye overnight. We’ve all seen it happen (CEO’s that say the wrong thing at the wrong time, posting a joke that falls flat and offends your target audience).
It will take a lot of time at first to get started, get into a routine that works and being consistent so the audience that you start building knows who you are, what you are about and what you have to offer to them.
We’ve put together 10 steps that you can follow to improve your chances of success, which will help you take advantage of everything social media has to offer.
10 Steps for Promoting Your Business
- CREATE A PLAN
Know which social media channels you are going to concentrate on. Ask yourself “Why am I on them? and Which channels are my target audience on?
- POST CONSISTENTLY
Develop a posting schedule. Know the difference for posting on each channel. Twitter needs 5+ tweets per day, Instagram doesn’t. Ask yourself “How often will I publish? What type of content? and When?
- QUALITY BEATS QUANTITY
Your content not only needs to be published consistently; it needs to have value to your target audience. Ask yourself: Is it helpful? Entertaining? Relevant to your audience?
- USE PUBLISHING TOOLS
If you’re publishing to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc., use a publishing tool. A program like Hootsuite, Buffer or Content Studio will publish to all your social accounts at once and let you schedule posts in advance. They also provide topic searches for relevant posts in your market that you can re-post to your audience.
- POST IMAGES
Photos have proven to be the most popular type of content for engagement. They get shared, commented and retweeted the most. You can get photos from sites like Pixabay or Unsplash and use programs like Canva, Pixlr or Landscape to edit the images for posting.
- A/B TESTING
A/B testing means using different headlines for the same piece of content to see which one gets a better response. Schedule your post multiple times, change the headline & see what happens. You’ll start to get a better feel for what grabs your audience’s attention once you’ve done it a few times.
- MEASURE YOUR EFFORTS
Did you know that 40% of businesses don’t track their social media ROI? Don’t follow them. Track your posts impressions, views, mentions, actions, comments & engagements at least weekly. Your social media publishing program should have reporting features so you can track this from your dashboard.
- PAY TO GET NOTICED
We all want free organic growth. Organic growth takes time to build and with each platform reducing the amount of organic visibility your getting you should be paying to boost or promote your posts to get in front of your audience. Make sure you target your ads to reach the right audience on the social platform you’ve chosen to promote on. Use Facebook Business Manager or Google Analytics dashboards to track your advertising campaigns and ROI.
- JOIN COMMUNITIES
Join in on industry related social networks like Facebook Groups, Twitter Chats, Reddit or LinkedIn Groups. This will build your online authority, reputation and brand reach. Make sure you’re active on them by responding to other people’s posts as well as posting yourself. If you can’t find one, create one.
Do not spam the groups about your product or service. Most groups have tight rules about this. Follow the rules or you’ll get kicked out of the groups and piss off the people you’re trying to reach.
- DON’T IGNORE ANYONE!!!
Interact with people. Don’t just share posts & links all day. Engage in conversation. Reply to comments/posts with @mentions of their name, retweet one of their tweets, reply to other people’s posts.
